Accurately delivers prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist using a variety of complex techniques and equipment. Proficiently uses a variety of complex equipment and technology to deliver diagnostic and therapeutic radiation. Efficiently and effectively uses and coordinates key information, through electronic documentation (EMR system) and oral communication, with other members of the healthcare team.

Willing to work at both clinics, located in St. Louis, MO and Fairview Heights, IL

Education & Qualifications: Associate of Science degree in Radiologic Sciences or equivalent. Bachelors of Science preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years' current work experience as a Radiation Therapist or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses/Certifications: Current ARRT in Radiation Therapy and successfully attain state licensure. Current CPR certification.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Lifts up to 20 pounds, walks to/from various areas in clinic, stands at counter tops, and may climb stairs on occasion. Requires normal operation of various computer systems (keyboards, mouse, and computer screen) and machines used for the delivery of diagnostic and therapeutic radiation.

Special Requirements: Effective verbal and writing ability required to communicate when informing patients and employees of activities and processes. Numerical ability required to accurately operate machines and deliver treatments. Ability to receive, understand, and carry out various instructions; work safely with various equipment, machines, and materials; comply with attendance requirements; and adhere to safety/operational procedures and Human Resource policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Implements treatment prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.

Reviews EMR system (i.e., ARIA) for correct patient identification, prescription, treatment parameters, and treatment plan before commencing patient treatment.

Prepares equipment such as immobilization, treatment, and protection devices, and positions patient according to the prescription and plan of treatment.

Performs warm-up procedures for the linear accelerator and follows QA protocols.

Performs warm-up procedures for the CT simulator and follows QA protocols.

Performs daily radiation therapy treatments following center policies and procedures.

Performs daily imaging using OBI (KV and MV imagers).

Observes and reassures patients during treatment and reports unusual reactions to the Radiation Oncologist.

Performs charge capture of daily treatments and reviews daily treatment activity capture in the EMR system (i.e., ARIA).

Assists the RSD/Lead Therapist with therapist weekly chart checks.

Assists the RSD/Lead Therapist with initial chart checks on all new patients or new treatment fields prior to treatment.

Performs CT simulations consistent with policies and procedures.

Attends weekly chart rounds.

Follows internal policies and procedures related to QA, radiation safety, and Quality Management Program (QMP).

Adheres to state radiation safety regulations.

Follows center's policies and procedures required to (a) meet AAPM/ACR/ACRO standards for accreditation, (b) comply with HIPAA and OSHA requirements, and (c) follow federal and state regulations governing the administration of radiation.

Actively participates in continuous improvement process and risk reduction program.

Actively identifies unintended deviations (mistakes, errors, events, violations) in the treatment process.

Assists the RSD/Lead Therapist in implementing corrective action plans associated with unintended deviations.

Trains therapy students or new hires, when requested.

Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families.

Provides physical assistance when transferring patients.

Attends center meetings as required.

For bilingual speaking employees, acts as a translator to assist patients and others when needed.

Maintains patient and worker confidentiality.

Manages competing demands and keeps emotions under control.

Treats patients, fellow workers, and management with respect and dignity.

Follows management instructions and responds to management directives with integrity and commitment.

Provides superior patient interaction and strives for high satisfaction metrics throughout the entire patient treatment process.

Seeks ways to improve efficiency, safety, and quality while reducing costs.

Performs all other duties as assigned.
